Casa Refugio offers the three ingredients that every renter seeks in San Miguel but which so many houses lack: Sunlight, Warmth and Quiet. Almost all of this house’s rooms are bathed in direct sunlight. The natural warmth supplied by the sun keeps internal temperatures quite pleasant even in mid-winter. On colder mornings and evenings well-functioning gas fireplaces keep the house toasty. When inside Casa Rifugio guests will enjoy an oasis of tranquility seemingly far removed from the hubbub of San Miguel.
In Spanish “Refugio” means hideaway. The house lives up to its names by offering guests not only spaces for shared activities but ample opportunity for privacy. The central courtyard, which doubles as dining area for lunch and for dinner on warm evenings, is flanked on the first floor by the living room and eat-in kitchen. A staircase in the kitchen leads to the second floor with Master bedroom and study/guest bedroom separated by the upper reaches of the courtyard. One flight up is another guest bedroom and the roof terrace with inviting views of the surrounding city. The top floor of the house contains a glass enclosed belvedere- ready to become an artist studio or an observatory in which to while away the sunset hour with a glass of wine in hand.
